Charles Messier b.1730 d.1817, France.
Charles Messier was a French astronomer who had a thing for comets. He began to be annoyed by objects in the sky that looked like comets, but weren't. So, he began to compile these non-comet objects into a collection. Although he did discover a good handful of comets, even acquiring the nickname "Comet Ferret", Messier ended up being mostly known for this 110 object catalog.
